Just thought I'd let you folks know in case any of you have similar issues. Now I'm able to play Falcon and LHX the way it was meant to be played. I cheered and raised my hands in victory I was so happy that I was able to fix it with such a simple solution (no pun intended). Voi-fucking-La! It worked when I plugged it in. I had about given up my joystick for dead when, upon closer inspect, I noticed that the inner connectors on the USB plug looked a bit tarnished to the point where you could barely see themĪs a last ditch effort, thinking there's no way this would work, I gently cleaned the USB connect with an alcohol wipe and a toothpick. Many suggestions pretty much ended in a dead end. Recommendations suggesting clearing out devices in registry abound but nothing worked for me. I tried plugging it into different USB ports nothing.Ī Google search brings up multiple hits about Sidewinder joysticks suddenly "dying" on Win7 and above. Then when I decided to fire up games like LHX or Falcon I noticed it wasn't working which then made me bring up device / gamepad control panel and noticed it wasn't even being detected. In fact it's been connected to a USB port in the back thinking nothing of it. I recently wanted to dabble again with some old school sims in DosBox and I've had my trusty Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick on my desk for months (it doubles as a handy headset holder for my Logitech headset) but never used it. I feel that flight sims are much more enjoyable with force feedback, so I'd rather stay with this stick.I'm not sure where to post this since I only ever use my Precision 2 for old school gaming like DOS simulators (Falcon 3.0 and LHX ftw), so I figure I'd post it here. I would imagine it wouldn't be very complicated to add, could it be added in a future update? I have a newer stick (saitek x52) that works exactly the same as the sidewinder 2 but no force feedback. It doesn't work well since the forces feel weaker and minimizing the game causes war thunder to reinitialize it's own directinput. I tried running "simffb", a program where you can modify force settings (including swap axis), by replacing the war thunder directinput to a modified one. The joystick does work well with the game, just the feedback axis are swapped as compared to other force feedback joysticks like the logitech g940 (which seems to be officially supported by war thunder since it's one of the presets).Ī simple fix would be to have a swap axis option, like the once in DCS world.

So I tried running the game in windows xp (ms sidewinder force feedback 2 is officially supported in xp) along with the official drivers and the same thing happens again.

The only suggestion I could make is to duel boot with an operating system that does have drivers available or upgrade to a newer stick. This is why you have issues with the force feedback in game. DO NOT LET WINDOWS BUILD DRIVERS FOR YOUR STICK.

*****I RECOMMEND YOU INSTALL THE DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE FOR YOUR JOYSTICK. I have found in this game that windows drivers for some sticks do not work for War Thunder. (I've attached my, my dxdiag info, and latest client log)

Could you implement this in an update in the near future? The game isn't really playable in the current state. In order to fix this, I propose that you implement more options to the force feedback, especially a force feedback axes swap option. I've noticed most people with this joystick had problems like this in war thunder. Most games with force feedback supported this controller perfectly, but for ones that didn't have the axes quite right, there were options to fix this manually (DCS world has a swap option which worked well).

I am using the drivers installed by windows 7 automatically when using the device, but I don't think that's related to the problem. Furthermore (and more annoyingly) when flying at relatively high speeds (more than 300km/h) when I pull back on the stick, the force feedback response is to pull left, and a left roll pulls the stick up, and so forth. For example, while takeoff, i have very light elevator control, while heavy aileron control (the airflow generated by the propeller should be affecting the elevator, not the ailerons).
All of the forces that should be acting in the y axis (pitch) is acting in the x axis (roll) and vice versa. There is an issue with the microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 in warthunder.
